Rev. Dr. Jasclyn N. Coney, LPC is a licensed mental health counselor, and proud Chicago, Illinois native whose life’s work lives at the vital intersection of faith, emotional wellness, and social justice. For Dr. Coney, ministry and mental health are not separate callings but one integrated purpose: to see individuals and communities made whole, in spirit, mind, and daily living.
A Bridge Between Faith and Mental Health
Through both her ministry and clinical work, Dr. Coney works tirelessly to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health in faith spaces — spaces that have not always made room for open conversations about emotional pain, trauma, or healing. Her advocacy centers on providing tangible resources, promoting holistic healing, and pursuing liberation for individuals and families impacted by systemic oppression, historical inequities, and trauma, empowering them to lead balanced, resilient lives.
Regardless of the emotional, psychological, or behavioral struggles that may have prevented healthy daily functioning in the past, Dr. Coney’s ultimate goal with her clients is to help them build essential life skills, maintain a positive functioning attitude, and develop the independent living skills that will serve them for a lifetime. She invites individuals to explore their feelings, thoughts, pain, goals, and desires — walking alongside them as they accept new roles within life’s transitions and learn to find joy amid the storm.
Academic & Clinical Foundation
Dr. Coney’s deeply integrated approach to ministry is backed by an exceptional academic and clinical background. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Chicago State University in Chicago, IL, followed by a Master of Arts in Clinical Professional Psychology, with dual concentrations in Child and Family Systems, from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
Continuing her theological preparation, Dr. Coney earned her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ, and went on to complete her Doctor of Ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary. She is an Ordained Minister of the Gospel.
Her clinical experience includes work as a Psychotherapist and Hospice Chaplain. She is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and holds intensive training as a certified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate — equipping her to walk with clients through some of life’s most difficult and vulnerable seasons.
Faith That Calls Her Beyond the Walls
Dr. Coney believes God has called her to work both within and beyond the walls of the church — supporting, cultivating, and advocating for diverse community settings to ensure justice within institutional and sacred spaces alike. Her goal is to motivate, inspire, and bridge the gap between sacred spaces and the broader world of mental health and illness.
At the core of Dr. Coney’s life and ministry is her guiding scripture, Psalm 23, which anchors her unwavering conviction that God is ultimately a God of restoration and renewed strength.
